Within the framework of the Hermitage 20/21 project the State Hermitage presents an exhibition of prints of Ilya and Emilia Kabakovs The Printer’s Mistake. Ilya and Emilia Kabakovs, remarkable artists of the age of Moscow romantic conceptualism of 1970s, belong to the most famous modern Russian artists in the world. In 1980s Ilya and Emilia Kabakovs emigrated to the USA, New York. There is an extensive collection of works that belong to the artists and represent their best creations, from the earliest works repurchased from private collections to the best items in each new series. In 2008 artists received one of the most prestigious awards in the field of arts, the artistic award of the Emperor of Japan that is awarded to men of arts “for their accomplishments, international influence, and spiritual enrichment of the entire world community”. 24 graphic works are put on display at the Hermitage: the like-named series of works The Printer’s Mistake, works from albums Decorator Malygin, Joker Gorokhov and other works created by Ilia and Emilia Kabakobs between 1985 and 2010. Graphical works displayed in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theater are part of the gift donated by the artists to the collection of the State Hermitage in 2010.
